Generative Markings: PlanetPaul in Apogee brings together the most recent work by South African artist Paul du Toit. This series of strongly interrelated paintings and sculptures is the latest iteration of Paul du Toit's investigation into the boundaries of his media. Drawn from a formal lexicon that he has developed over the years, his 'forest of symbols', these works are united by their bold lines and strong sense of balance, color and composition. Expressive yet whimsical, spontaneous yet methodological, these abstracted figures from PlanetPaul reveal an endless exploration into the artist's inner psyche, works that although personal, are in constant dialogue with the modernist aesthetic that informs the artist's ever-evolving techniques and methods of mark-making.
